2005 Trespass Merlot
St. Helena, Napa Valley
An incredible vinous wine that at first just leaps out of the glass. The purity of the fruit is everywhere in this wine. There are sensations of blueberry, sweet oak and a touch of embers on the nose. The palate is bold with more bright blue fruit, black cherry finesse and structure from front to middle. Bold for Merlot, the back palate shows its youth and terrior with a touch of rustic dustiness that will soften with age.
This is a red that certainly opened up and delightfully evolved over time in the decanter and glass. It has weight enough for even the most powerful pairings. I believe this wine will age well for 8 to 12 years or more.
