2025 Spring Release
Dear Trespass Friends,
Welcome to our Spring Release Letter! As the valley begins to wake up from winter, we turn to celebrating our newest wines to share with all of you. The 2022 vintage growing season was a challenging one. Budbreak was slightly earlier than usual for us, but we avoided any spring frost issues and moved into summer with the usual cycles. And then came September and we had a heat wave that lasted a week, with extreme temperatures. Donny kept the vines hydrated (thank goodness for his micro-management tendencies!) and we brought the fruit in later in the month with wonderful ripeness, flavor, acidity and balance.
At the point the grapes hit the crush pad, they were in the capable hands of winemaker Kirk Venge and his team. This vintage required patience and time to let the wines develop in the barrel and develop their unique nuances. We could finally exhale.
Below we have Kirk’s tasting notes about the new releases. A little “behind the scenes” item – he noted in his 2022 Intrigue tasting notes that this blend has “excellent aging potential”. That prompted us to open a few bottles of older Intrigue, and we agree with his assessment. We decided to open the cellar doors and offer some of the 2015 Intrigue which is drinking beautifully right now. You will see it noted on the order form. For other “drink now” vintages, please feel free to give Donny a call.
2022 Trespass Estate Cabernet Franc – 125 Cases Produced
Always a star in the Trespass family lineup, the 2022 Cabernet Franc impresses with its fantastic red and black hues, setting the stage for a wine full of character. The nose is rich and expressive, offering a captivating mix of dark cherry, currants, and ripe blackberry. On the palate, the wine showcases a well-balanced structure with a full mouth and top palate body, delivering a seamless blend of fleshy dark red fruit and integrated tannins. The varietal character of this stoic red is clear and true, with 2% Petit Verdot blended, the tannins further providing both grip and elegance, enhancing the wine’s reach of depth. Tasted several times over two days of remaining open, the balance between fruit, acidity, and tannin displays an exceptional evolution, making this Cabernet Franc a vibrant and harmonious expression of the grape. It’s a classical wine that will continue to improve with time but is already a pleasure to enjoy now. Bottled after 22 months in 80% new French oak, unfiltered and unfined.
2022 Trespass INTRIGUE – 175 Cases Produced
The Intrigue is a meticulously crafted four-varietal Bordeaux blend which showcases the harmonious interplay of Cabernet Sauvignon (35%), Cabernet Franc (35%), Merlot (26%), and Petit Verdot (4%). The nose is dominated by primary red fruit aromas, with vibrant notes of ripe cherry, raspberry, and a hint of strawberry, complemented by very charming hints of hard candy and a touch of clove spice. On the palate, the wine reveals a delicate yet finely structured frame, with exceptional balance between bright fruit, playful acidity, and fine tannins. The wine’s subtlety does not overshadow its depth, offering a seamless progression of flavors that feels both elegant and well-defined. Its versatility and finesse make it a perfect companion to a wide array of dishes. With its excellent aging potential, this wine is poised to evolve beautifully over the next 15 to 20 years, developing further complexity and nuance as time unfolds. A true testament to the skillful blend and precision in design. Raised in 75% new French oak for 22 months, bottled unfiltered and unfined.
2022 Trespass MAYHEM – 125 Cases Produced
This Right Bank modeled Bordeaux blend presents a deep, dark hue that hints at the power and depth within. One of my most anticipated wines from the Trespass quiver every year! On the nose, it unveils a deeply layered bouquet of black fruits – blackberries, black currants, and ripe plum – intertwined with subtle earthy undertones, adding complexity and intrigue. With further time in the glass, the elixir like aromatics evolve and continue to lift wistfully. The mouth follows the trend of its nose and is rich and opulent, with a warmth that envelops the senses, creating an inviting and quite harmonious experience. There are no gaps or holes on the palate; the wine is generous and seamless from start to finish. The blend of 40% Cabernet Franc and 60% Merlot creates a beautifully structured wine, with round tannins and well-integrated acidity providing precision like focus and balance. The finish is wonderfully long, leaving a lasting impression of black fruit and subtle spice. A superb expression of Right Bank Bordeaux that will continue to evolve and develop over time. Aged in 80% new French Oak for 22 months, always bottled unfiltered and unfined.
